Linear equations & expressions (draft)

Linear equations

To solve for x: isolate the variable on one side using inverse operations. Add or subtract the same term on both sides, then multiply or divide by the coefficient.

Simplifying expressions

Combine like terms (same variable and exponent). Use the distributive property when you have a factor outside parentheses: a(b + c) = ab + ac.

Practice

Example: 2x + 5 = 13 → subtract 5 from both sides → 2x = 8 → divide by 2 → x = 4.
